With that being said, Sarah was definitely involved in some dangerous things, but what caused that? I do hope the situation improves in future episodes. Maybe you should read up on your sex ed or at the very least visit. Lazy writing, left us with a totally predictable story, a huge hole in the plot, and a less than stellar ending. The oedipal mother is consumed by the idea of protection for her daughter and cannot see that normal attenuation to emotions of pain and sadness not seeing her grandfather's heart attack and her mother crying at one point emotionally cripples her daughter in a way, leading her to try more extreme things. Apart from that, she actually helped her from the nightmare of a teenage pregnancy, a smart and caring mother imo who instead got beatun up badly. Despite the microchip, she was friendly and amicable enough to her daughter.
A junkie or even a casual drug user would have laid out 2 lines. Posts or comments linking to any type of unauthorized distribution of any branch of The Walking Dead franchise will be removed. This really ties the 'Oedipus' aspect together. The natural human boundaries are blurred by the over parenting, leading to an overreation in her rebellion. Tune in to find out! And it spirals from there.
She spent ten years of her life from 5 to 15 I'm assuming without ArkAngel, which is definitely enough time to get used to the world with all of the blood and gore that is in it. Foster apparently had a role in changing the script. Having unprotected sex with a junkie when she's only 15 fucking years old and forcing said junkie to let her have a go at cocaine. This episode was rather blunt. Copyright © 2016-2019 All Rights Reserved. Low effort posts more suited for the episode discussions may be removed. I am not arguing against some paternalism, it is just that this parent failed to properly understand her child and reason with her. Feel free to message us moderators if you have suggestions or concerns about these. Links to discussion threads Rules Please report any rule breakers. How many extras will get killed off by the flu this week? People are empathising with a tyrannical parent who went to ridiculous levels of coddling. To be 100% safe it would be wise to stay off the sub until you are caught up or to only participate in the official episode discussion threads. Maybe I'd buy it if it were the child equivalent of microchipping a pet, but the power of this device is so absurdly over-the-top that even the maddest of scientists would consider it an overreach.
It had a thing going for it at the start. We simply ask that you keep those discussion of piracy elsewhere, and not on this particular subreddit. She'd most likely turn into a druggie too. Edit edit: Also the thing censors to the point where the child can't even perceive her own injuries????????? I was hoping the mom would get something coming at her the moment she didn't destroy the tablet like the doctor suggested. Black Mirror is an anthology series created by Charlie Brooker featuring speculative fiction with dark and sometimes satirical themes which examine modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies.
Mom's dad is rolling in his grave. I seriously thought it was going to go here. I'm really enjoying the easter eggs they're putting up in each episode. Violence filter would be a much deeper and more relevant theme. I know the mom threatened to go to the police, so that implies that he's older. I get that she's 15 but to me she was a cliche, a simple trope of an annoying teenager in every movie that has no relation to teenagers in real life. They didnt show him do any drugs.
And it spirals from there. She was a selfish brat. The story itself wasn't reliant on technology as a driver in the mother's problem, only that it exacerbated the feelings she had by allowing her unfiltered access to her child's private life. Of course the girl has sex, of course she instantly becomes pregnant, of course she's getting morning sickness immediately. Imagine if the mother went rogue and put her daughter on lockdown. It kinda has to hit all the high notes, getting pregnant instantly, trying coke etc. Exposing a little girl to exuberant amounts of digital violence after not even being able to stomach the sound of a barking dog is a strong adjustment.
But, hey, the uneducated mother seems to know best! We understand that certain users have limited access to the show, and can only obtain it through illegal means. No targeted harassment of fellow users. I empathize with the mother, especially her impulse to check the tablet every time. The episode did not create as deep of a dilemma as the other episodes. Imagine if and this is seriously the route I thought the episode was going to take the girl had lost her sense of right and wrong in the blur of the implant's censorship and wound up with a thirst for blood or violence.
But it was just an average family drama about a mother reading her daughter's diary watching what her daughter sees through her implants. I think that's why Sarah reacted the way she did, a desire to see blood, to know what the violent and sexual videos entailed, and led her to her experimentation with sex and drugs later on. Reason with the child on terms that are fair and just. Many Grecian epics follow the irony of causing your own fate by trying to avoid it, Oedipus Rex included. Why would a company continue to run firmware for a product that never even launched? Perhaps that's what made this episode so bad - no communication between the characters to the point where it seems unnatural and forced. Brooker wanted the story to be sympathetic towards helicopter parenting, which is completely opposite of what happened in the story.
