They spend the night helping each other break these habits. Matthew tells her that if she's not careful, Ritchie will end up like him -- he can't go to sleep without talking to their mother. This episode is the perfect example of Christine trying to do the right thing and failing hilariously. Matthew's relationship with Lucy is quickly tested when they move in together: her bizarre relationship with her dog and her obsession with how much space Matthew takes up makes them realize they can't be together. Richard is concerned that she'll be upset because he's moving on and she's alone, but Christine insists she's fine. They finally realize they've actually done a pretty good job.
Ritchie is unhurt, but Christine and Richard argue over who is the worst parent. The best part of the comedy is how relatable Christine is. . Christine takes them to the hospital, then tries to leave, but they insist she stay because she's their friend. Meanwhile, a therapist tells Matthew that he is having an inappropriate relationship with Christine. Christine refuses, until Richard offers to buy her a new ring. Once she sets out to make sure a black family enrolls their daughter in the school, she finds out they're not quite the family she pictured.
